Home-grown South boxing talent unstoppable

Simangele Hadebe, the previous winner of the Female Prospect of the Year Award, has been re-nominated as Female Prospect of the Year.

THE Unleashed Combat Sports Events, just three years old, managed to take five nominees to the Annual Boxing South Africa, BSA, Awards, a great performance from local, home-grown South talent. Unleashed, an International Boxing Promotion company is owned by local South African businesswoman, Shereen Hunter.

Competition yields recognition and it is within the context of trainer expertise, resilience, discipline and courage that the following Unleashed team members were nominated by the viewing public.

Lebo Mashitoa, Johannesburg-based in the cruiserweight division, has been nominated as Male Prospect of the Year. Lebo boasts of six wins, one loss and no draws.

Simangele Hadebe, also based in the South, in the super-flyweight division, has been re-nominated as Female Prospect of the Year category. She has achieved five wins, three losses and two draws. She is the previous winner of the Female Prospect of the Year Award.

Kholosa Ndobayini vs Hedda Wolmarans bout has been nominated as the Female Bout of the Year. Ndobayini, Johannesburg-based and in the lightweight division, boast 11 wins, seven losses and no draws. At the awards ceremony, she won the bout and retained her title as South African lightweight champion.

Head coach Lionel Hunter, from the Unleashed Combat Sport, was nominated in the Trainer of the Year category.

Colleen McAusland, also from Unleashed Combat Sport, was a nominee and won the Manager of The Year Award.

Unleashed Combat Sports Events is driven by Shereen and Lionel Hunter, a formidable husband and wife team who assume the respective roles of promoter and coach in the company. Lionel Hunter, the second in command, is the assistant coach, Tamrin Raynor, made history by becoming the youngest coach in South Africa.

Colleen McAusland, their licensed manager, said: “Unleashed intends to help restore boxing’s pride. We will achieve that by working closely with all trainers and promoters. It’s all about collaboration.”Collaborative efforts, particularly with BSA, promote the regulation and benchmarking of national excellent standards. This is attributable to Unleashed Combat Sports Events’ sustainability and positive empowering influence within the broader Combat Sports Community.

The tournaments which are promoted or sanctioned by Unleashed Combat Sports Events are reputable and thus bring together the best from all over the country.
