“THIS was the toughest fight that I experienced,” said Boyd Allen when he took on Brandon Thysse, who challenged him for his World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan Africa junior-middleweight title.
The action-packed Power at the Palace took place on May 10 at Emperors Palace and altogether five bouts featured on the bill.
Allen retained his belt on the evening in a tightly contested fight against Thysse winning by a split decision of 119/113, 115/113, 115/113 by the judges. Allen’s fans remarked that he should have won by a far greater margin than the judges scored.
“We went out of the fight learning a lot and I am looking forward to my next one,” said Allen.
Allen had Thysse at sixes and seven’s changing his stance all the time to control the fight. Most of the rounds Thysse was not on target which saw his challenge to the title goes abroad.
In the other title fight of the evening, South African super-middleweight champion Rowan Campbell from the Peter Smiths Gymnasium managed a good 10-rounder against Yanga Phetani and retained his IBO All Africa super-middleweight title for the first time. He won by unanimous points’ decision by the judges 98/93, 98/92, 99/91.

Aidan Quin won by KO 1:5 seconds in the second round in the junior-middleweight bout against Thulani Mdluli.
Tristan Truter won his middleweight bout against Ettiene van Niekerk over four rounds.
Roarke Knapp won by KO in the second round 1:22 seconds in the junior-middleweight bout against Wynand Mulder.
