Chiefs to take their chances in quarter finals

2019 Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.

Kaizer Chiefs will take their chances in the 2019 Nedbank Cup quarter finals against rivals from the Cape, Cape Town City, on March 31.

According to head coach Ernst Middendorp, his team exactly know what they will face from an upbeat Cape Town City. “This is a single match, it’s a play-off and there is no other chance than to go out there and beat them.”

“We are playing in front of our home crowd and will have lots of support. We have support throughout the country whether it is in Johannesburg, Durban, or in Nelspruit. And we have to give them something.”

He is also wary of the fact the Chiefs have not won any silverware for a couple of seasons, and went sent packing in the semi-finals in 2018, a factor that hastened the departure of former head coach, Steve Komphela.

The squad is also struggling with a number of injured players, but Middendorp said that is what the game is all about, and they do have excellent players coming in and showing their colours.

Chiefs and Cape Town City play the last of the quarter final matches on Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium.

Saturday will see Bloemfontein Celtic host Lamontville Golden Arrows in the afternoon. In the evening, Bidvest Wits take on Chippa United at home.
