Excitement grows as first tournaments loom

EXCITEMENT looms for boxing fans as AfricanRing in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotion will stage their first tournament.
Battle Stations tournament will take place on February 24 at Emperors Palace.
Boxing will start at 1pm and doors open at 12 noon.
Some of the young up-and-coming boxers will showcase their talent while the evening will end with good title fights.
The bout list will comprise of four title fights and a six rounder between Karabo Mokupui and Dowayne Combrink from Alberton in the middleweight division, while Ricardo Malajika from the South will take on Andile Cindy in the junior-bantamweight division.
From the Unleashed boxing gymnasium in the South, Clement Kamaga will come up against Marios Matamba, the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) African champion. They will go head to head for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-welterweight All Africa title over 12 rounds.
In the World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan African junior-welterweight title fight, Xolani Mcotheli, South African champion, will take on Jabulani Makhense, Gauteng champion, over 12 rounds.
Rowan Campbell, South African champion, will defend his title against Yanga Phetani in the SA Super middleweight title fight over 12 rounds.

BACK IN THE RING: Dowayne Combrink from Alberton will face Karabo Mokupui in the middle weight division over six rounds.

The Gauteng light-heavyweight title fight will be between Frank Rodriguez and Michael Markram over 10 rounds.
