[GALLERY + VIDEOS]: Early morning fitness fun

“With POUND you get a full-body cardio jam session, which as well as being great exercise, is fantastic fun,” said Jade Habib, who teaches POUND at Virgin Active branches in Joburg South.

ON a chilly and windy Saturday morning (May 19) the sounds of drumming and music could be heard from the rooftop of The Glen Shopping Centre, as POUND and yoga fitness groups gathered to take part in what can only be described as energising fun.

ALL GEARED UP: Dean Myburgh (marketing manager of The Glen Shopping Centre), Jade Habib (POUND trainer) and Anesh Diar (Meyersdal Virgin Active manager).

This was the first time it was held at The Glen Shopping Centre with three Virgin Active branches – Meyersdal, New Redruth and Glenvista members taking part, as well as other community members who felt a need to give their bodies a full work out.

“With POUND you get a full-body cardio jam session, which as well as being great exercise, is fantastic fun,” said Jade Habib, who teaches POUND at Virgin Active branches in Joburg South. “It’s the fastest growing fitness phenomenon which combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements,” she added.

Saturday’s group sported rock theme dress and as the women and men geared up with their drumsticks (called ripstix) and pounded the rooftop, the atmosphere was electric.

SOUND: Mbulelo Mthembu provided the vibey sound.

Marketing manager of The Glen Shopping Centre Dean Myburgh said, “We are hoping to host this once a month, it’s free and anyone who is interested in getting fit can come and join in.”
