TAKINGTHEPEACE squeezed in a big win for her owners in front of a sell-out crowd at Turffontein Racecourse when she won the second leg of the Triple Tiara at the South African Classic day.

Getting out of the barrier stone last, it was jockey Callan Murray who steered her into the fierce field to go through the winning posts with no space to spare between the top finishers on April 7.
Owners Murray Makepeace, assistant trainer Mathew de Kock and Michael Shea were ecstatic as they notched up the second of three legs in the Grade 1 Wilgebosdrift SA Fillies Classic over 1 800m. Murray caught the full field off guard as he went through the middle and winning with a smile. Takingthepace’s owners could not hide their joy and are hoping to clinch the last leg in May.

Visionaire snatched the second-placed from Green Top drawing from a 14 at the barrier.
In the main race, the SA Classic Grade 1, and second leg of the SA Triple Crown, Lobo’s Legend with jockey Muzi Yeni on his back and trained by Joe Soma won the R2-million over 1 800m on Saturday.

The duo won as outsiders at the expense of top-class three-year-olds, thus picking up the first Grade 1 win of his career winning by a 1.5 length in the R2-m SA Classic, beating favourite, Surcharge with jockey Piere Strydom on his back.
The last leg will take place on May 5, also at Turffontein Racecourse. The South will once again welcome H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco on April 21. Gates open at 11am on both occasions.
