New Year’s cup gets vans sponsorship

The New Year’s Cup will take place in Grahamstown from December 16 to 31.

The New Year’s Cup has secured a six-vehicle partnership from Mercedes-Benz Vans to make the second edition well worth competing in.

The New Year’s Cup will take place in Grahamstown from December 16 to 31.

This annual community-oriented event promotes youth development through participation and attracts local, provincial, national and international talent.

The automotive sponsorship sees the leading van manufacturer supplying the community initiative with six Mercedes-Benz vans, including three Sprinters, two Vito Tourers and a V-Class. The vehicles will make up a luxury fleet to transport players, coaches and support staff to and from the venues.

“Mercedes-Benz Vans is proud to be associated with youth development at a grass-roots level. We are excited to be able to play our part in positively shaping tomorrow’s football stars,” said Vusumzi Vusani, product and marketing manager for Mercedes-Benz Vans.

“We look forward to working in close collaboration with the New Year’s Cup to ensure the platform created is as successful as it can possibly be, in order to impact as many young lives possible. As the people’s first choice of vans in South Africa, Mercedes-Benz Vans will continue to be part of initiatives that make inroads in ensuring the country’s youth are always at an advantage,” said Vusani.

New Year’s Cup chairman Luyanda Papu said, “We witness a number of young people who are led astray as a result of not being able to be positively influenced. We established the New Year’s Cup last year in order to curb this social ill by introducing a football tournament that would involve the entire country. With the backing of Mercedes-Benz Vans, this mission will be realised.”

Mercedes-Benz Vans continues to be at the forefront of sport and youth development, through its innovative relationships, products and ambassadors. The manufacturer is excited to enhance the New Year’s Cup and to strengthen and promote the game of football in South Africa.
