Kit handout to youth players

Cricket kit handover to youth players.

A number of young cricketers coming out of the HUB programmes have received cricket kit throughout South Africa over the past few years.

“We all know that the cost of cricket equipment can be a hindering factor for any player trying to establish himself and creates an additional financial burden on parents,” said CSA general manager cricket, Corrie van Zyl.

Cricket South Africa, CSA and New Balance South Africa have joined hands to ensure that all the youth cricketers from the Standard Bank RPC’s and Hub’s programmes will have a full set of playing kit for their participation in the various National Age Group Weeks.

These weeks will commence in December and will assist the youngsters to compete on the same level as the rest of the teams.

New Balance will provide cricket equipment for 56 boys and girls, which will be a total contribution valued at just under R500 000. CSA will provide for the needs of a further 120 children through their Player Performance Programme. A number of other children, who are going to their second week as they move up the age groups, benefited from a similar gesture by New Balance last year.

In all, a total of 243 players – boys and girls – from the RPC and Hub’s programmes have been selected to represent their provincial teams in age group cricket.

The dates for the National Age Group weeks are as follows:

Momentum Boys u-13 Week – December 11 to 15 – Oudtshoorn

Momentum Boys u-17 Week – December 13 to 17 – East London
