Reading CC man qualifies as PGA pro

For Gavin, golf is a game that continuously teaches you a lot about yourself.

FOR 28-year-old Gavin Frazer, becoming a PGA (Professional Golfers Association) professional is a dream come true and proof that hard work and dedication always pay off.

Gavin, who did his apprenticeship at Reading Country Club working as a PGA apprentice in their pro shop, received his diploma at the PGA Awards and Graduation Ceremony on September 18 at Royal and Kensington Country Club.

“My dad was the great instigator in introducing me to the game of golf. He was a keen golfer and once I completed school, he encouraged me to take up the game. Though I didn’t get to play professionally, I did meet Donovan Main and Barry Bothma, who head up the golfing section at Reading Country Club. They encouraged me to join them in their pro shop and complete the three-year PGA Professional course,” Gavin said.

Donovan, head PGA professional at Reading CC, said: “We are very proud of Gavin’s achievement, and with him now being qualified, we can really boast a very strong team offering the highest level of service and expertise to Reading’s visitors and members.”

For Gavin, golf is a game that continuously teaches you a lot about yourself.

“It certainly taught me discipline and composure. It’s a game that is forever challenging, but I love it,” he added.

He has high praise for Reading Country Club.

“It is a great club to belong to, very friendly and with a golf course that is in pristine condition, certainly one of the best in Gauteng.”
