Waterstone College pupil cycles for charity

CLAUDIO Melo (14) is a Waterstone College pupil who will be doing a cycling tour to Mozambique to raise money for charity.

The tour is four days long and Claudio will have to cycle for a total of 685km. Cyclers will depart from Luso Africa Sports and Cultural Club in Primrose on September 27 and will set off to Groblersdal then to Lydenburg, Malelane, Maputo and then end off with a circuit race.

Claudio aims to raise money for charity along with the other cyclists. The charities that funds are raised for are Casa Do Gaiato, Missao São Roque (orphanages based in Mozambique), Segrado Coracao de Jesus (a home for the elderly in Mozambique) and Lusiadas (a home for the elderly in Pretoria).

“There are 65 cyclists in total and I am one of the youngest with the eldest rider being 74 years old. We stand for the slogan, ‘ Suar Para Ajudar’, which directly translated from Portuguese means ‘Building up a sweat to help’. I want to make a difference by doing what I enjoy,” said Claudio.
