Enter online for the Spar Women's Challenge Joburg leg.

THE most beautiful race and the biggest race in Africa for women have found a new home for this year’s event.

The SPAR Women’s Challenge will take place on October 8 and for the first time will be hosted at Marks Park Sports Club. The race will take place over 10km for elite runners and a 5km for junior elite and social runners.

The first 16 000 pre-entries will each receive a race T-shirt and also the first 16 000 finishers will receive a goody bag.

The final leg of the Spar Grand Prix Series at Marks Park Sports Club, Emmarentia, on Sunday, entertainment will also be provided throughout the day.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the main beneficiary of the race is Reach for Recovery. The international breast cancer support group helps women with breast cancer return to daily life through providing free support by volunteers who themselves have suffered the effects of breast cancer, as well as providing a prosthesis service.

An entry fee of R80 (deadline September 25) and late entry fee of R90 is all that stands in the way of getting fitter for a good cause.

Spar South Rand marketing director, Martin Webber, said since the race was launched 26 years ago, it has all been about the ‘fun element’. “The run attracts people from all walks of life: girls, moms, aunts and grannies and men come to support them,” he said.
