Alberton High’s mountain bikers at it again

Bacon rolls were the order of the day upon completion of the race, much to the riders' delight.

ALBERTON High School’s mountain biking team (AHS MTB), along with teams from other provinces, took part in a race to make North West teams more competitive.

The team missed some great school racing on May 13, when the Tour De Vaal was rained out, but on Saturday, May 27, they raced against the Spur North West (NW) High Schools at Hoërskool Hartbeespoort. Riders from several provinces raced against the NW Province to help them improve their times and fitness levels.

Five of the riders raced and the practice laps went off in grand style, but during the actual timed laps, several of the riders sustained injuries. Four of the riders completed their races, with one rider getting a “did not finish”. The riders raced in their brand-new sponsored shirts, compliments of Suzuki Johannesburg South and IPOP Personality Cars Bassonia.

The 5km lap times ranged from 19 minutes to 25 minutes, averaging 22 minutes.

Bacon rolls were the order of the day upon completion of the race, much to the riders’ delight.

AHS MTB is training hard for the Gauteng series, with the next race being the Tour De Plaas at Bekker High School in Magaliesberg on August 12.
