Joburg Open off to a wet start

Players starting off on a wet first day of the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club

The 2017 Joburg Open got off to a very wet start due to the prevailing rainy condition since Monday, but the full field of 210 players made their way to the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club to commence with their onslaught.

The City of Johannesburg is presenting the Joburg Open, which is being held from Thursday, February 23 to Sunday, February 26 at the local fairways. The tournament is scheduled to take place on both the Eastern and Western Course and the likes of Brandon Grace, defending champion Haydn Porteous as well as Alberton-based Eye of Africa player Keith Horne will play for the prize money of R16.5 million and the coveted trophy.

The Joburg Open is co-sanctioned by the European Tour, with a larger purse, which attracts a greater field of international players as well as South Africa’s top players. It is one of several tournaments in South Africa on the European Tour’s international schedule and where high-finishing players earn entry into The Open Championship if not already exempt.

The cut-off day will be on Friday, where half of the field will be reduced to play in the last two days. Play starts at 06:45 on Friday, February 24.

Tickets can be purchased from the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club or TicketPro.
