Get fit before the festive fat

Fortunately there is an opportunity to get out and burn off some calories before the festive rush

WITH December just around the corner, now is the time to get fit before the onslaught of the festive season indulging.

Fortunately there is an opportunity to get out and burn off some calories while enjoying the spectacular Magaliesburg with friends and family.

The Magalies Adventure 2016 is taking place at African Price Mount Grace Hotel & Spa on Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27 – and welcomes mountain-bikers and trail runners.

The mountain bike two-day event includes a 65 km ride on day one and a 50 km ride on day two – on mostly single, cross country track through privately-owned farms in the area, opened to participants for this event only. Cost for the challenge is R595 per person.

For those not up for the full two-day challenge but still wanting to get involved, the Mini Magalies is a great option. Choose from riding along the 65 km route of day one on the Saturday, or else enjoy the 50 km stage on the Sunday. Day two is a fairly moderate to challenging route, which suits riders fairly new to mountain biking. Entry for this event costs R325 per rider per day; and the ride starts at 08:15.

For the trail runners, there are three different runs taking place on the Saturday. The 25 km run is suitable for more experienced runners with good stamina. Entry for that race is R225. The 16 km is aimed at regular runners who want a bit of a challenge. Entry costs R175. The eight km race is a great route for anyone who’s done 5 km before and wants a bit of a stretch. Entry for the latter run costs R125.

According to race organiser Rob Jackson from the Leverage Corporation, what sets this challenge apart from other events, is that it offers more single track riding and a larger section of virgin track than most other mountain biking events in SA. “It’s a fun, fast race offering spectacular scenery and of course, great camaraderie. It’s not an overcrowded event with ‘wannabe racers’ charging around you at all times” said Jackson.

Participants can expect a highly-professionally organised, on-time and smooth operation with great facilities and sponsorships.

Race fees for all events include a goodie bag, shirt (except the eight km run), shower facilities, a race medal, a glass of bubbly at the finish; post-race bike wash compliments of Bridgestone; and a complimentary neck or head and shoulder massage courtesy of African Pride Mount Grace.

There will be full medical support provided by ER24 as well as marshals provided by Think Bike, to ensure safety along the way. There will also be monetary and lucky draw prizes handed out at the prize giving on Sunday.

“Participants can expect professionally planned and managed routes, so enter now to avoid disappointment. Entries have already opened and spots are filling fast. The Magalies Adventure is an event not to miss – so see you there!” concluded Jackson.

Those interested should enter online by visiting the Cycle Events portal. Entries close on Sunday November 13.
