Chad Ho wins trio of Dischem Open Water races

Dis-Chem open water swimming events have attracted hundreds of swimmers who competed in the various categories.

THE combined event Dis-Chem Open Water Swimming races were held at Sun City Lake on Saturday October 22 – and set to initiate the 2016/2017 open water swimming season.

The event is considered to be one of the biggest open water swims and the races attracted hundreds of swimmers, who competed in the various categories.

Durban’s Olympian Chad Ho made his way through swimming in all of the events – the 3 000m, 1 500m and the 600m fun swim – for the benefit of the charities: Lifesaving Community, Kidney Beanz Trust, Little Eden and Masters Open Water Swimming. Ho was the first across the finishing line in all of these races. “I’m doing this for the charities, which gives them the opportunity to utilise and benefit from the moneys raised at this wonderful event,” said Ho.

This open water event is a fun filled family day out, given the choice of the three different distances. The 3 000m and 1 500m cater for the serious swimmers, whereas for the 600m fun swim, any swimming equipment such as pool noodles and fins, can be used. Lifeguards patrolled all of the events to ensure the safety of all the participants. Various sponsors got involved and made the most of the day. Spot prizes were also get given out to randomly selected swimmers. There was prize money for each event and various age categories.
