Newly crowned Confederation of African Football (CAF) champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, will feature at the FIFA Club World Cup 2016 tournament to be held in Japan.

StarSat will broadcast the 2016 tournament for which Sundowns qualified as the African representative.

The Brazilians beat Zamalek from Alexandria in Egypt 3-1 on aggregate, to become the second South African team to lift the CAF Champions League trophy. That victory means it’ll be the first time a South African team plays in the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be played from December 8 to 18 with all matches live and exclusive on StarSat.

The tournament has seen African teams such as TP Mazembe and Raja Casablanca make it all the way to the finals. Can Pitso Mosimane’s all-conquering side match or even do better than those teams?

Sundowns will play their first match on December 11, against the winner of the contest between the J-League champions and Auckland City – and theyll be going all out to make a mark in the tournament.’

Star attacking player Khama Billiat has previously stated that he would like to go up against world superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo. There’s a chance that the dream could become a reality: if Sundowns wins all their matches and European champions Real Madrid win theirs, the two sides could meet in the final.

Can Billiat face Ronaldo in Japan? Can Sundowns rewrite history by becoming the first African side to be crowned world champions?

The club has fulfilled the dream of club president Patrice Motsepe, by becoming African champions. Now they’ll take on the world.
