New adventure for gymnasts

Kickboxing classes at Resilience club.

A NEW adventure started for the Resilience Gymnastics Club, when they kicked off with kickboxing classes.

The gymnasts realised that there is a gap in the market in the area for this sport and introduced the sporting code.

This is a new line for the club, which also offers artistic, rhythmic and tumbling in gymnastics, as well as having its own dance studio.

Kickboxer Martin Groenewald has been appointed as the instructor for both the children’s and adults’ classes.

Groenewald commenced with his kickboxing career in 1997 and is a Third Degree black belt.

He started teaching full time in 2002 and has taken part in countless fights, from point system to light and full contact, including Tai boxing to MMA.

In 2006 he took part in the World Championships in Cyprus, and has been taking part in other international fights, against Canada, when they compete

in South Africa.

Groenewald is the South African amateur kickboxing champion in the 82kg weight division and has fought for the amateur pro-am title twice.

Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Resilience Gymnastics Club in Robertsham.

Children’s classes are from 16:00 to 17:30 and adults’ classes from 17:30 to 19:00
