Cavemen continue with their unbeaten streak
PHL continue each weekend at Astro Randburg.
THE Premier Hockey League continued over the second weekend of the month-long series, which is played on Saturdays and Sundays, from September 3.
The unbeaten Maropeng Cavemen continued with their winning streak in this competition, by beating the South African u.21 team, the Gladiators, 3-2.
The Cavemen, still undefeated, now lead the standings on nine points from three games, while the Gazelles, who have lost two of their four games, but have picked up two bonus points, are a point behind them.
The team that is quietly serving notice in the tournament is the hard as nails Cavemen, who came back from 2-0 down against the SA u.21, playing as the Gladiators.
On Saturday, the Cavemen made a humble comeback after being 0-2 down at half time, against the Gladiators.
In the second half they pulled back two goals, to equalise, and the winning shot for them came just before the final whistle was blown, to hand them the win over the u.21 outfit.
On Sunday, the two top-of-the-table teams, the Cavemen and the Garden Route Gazelles, clashed.
It was an encounter which lived up to expectations and the best game of the weekend.
And, in the staring contest to decide who the menere were, halfway through the tournament, it was the Gazelles who blinked first, to a controversial 3-2 defeat, thus leaving the Cavemen on top of the log.
The PHL will take place this weekend, at the Randburg Astro. The games are for both men’s and women’s teams, on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10:00. Entrance is free.
