Highly rated Super Four finals – Lerena vs Nielsen

Welterweight Chris van Heerden will be back to showcase his boxing talents.

THE last major showdown on a very busy boxing calendar for 2016 will take place at the end of October featuring the much anticipated return of Chris van Heerden to southern African soil.

In a sizzling WBA Pan African welterweight title fight, Van Herden will showcase his talents against Sacky Shikukutu from Namibia.

The Southpaw Showdown will take place on Saturday, October 22, at Emperors Palace and presented by Golden Gloves Promotions (GGP).

Van Heerden, who has made his new home in Santa Monica, California, last fought in South African on March 2, 2013, beating Matthew Hatton. He will return to home soil to take on the highly rated Shikukutu for the vacant title over 12 rounds.

The Namibian fought Jason Bedeman on June 11, delivering a strong message to Van Heerden in the way he beat the Southerner. He has a formidable record of 22 fights, three losses, one draw, boasting 13 KOs.

On the other hand, Van Heerden’s impeccable performance in the ring and his never-give-up attitude has made him a crowd favourite. Since moving to the USA he only lost once in his six outings abroad. He has two more fights on his personal record, stepping into the ring 24 times with two losses and one draw, and has recorded twelve KOs in his career. Both boxers were KO’d once in their professional career, which makes this an evenly matched bout.

To have a bumper evening for the pundits, Rodney Berman of GGP has delivered once again as the finals of the R1.5-million Super Four Cruiserweight fight will be the highlight when Kevin Lerena and Micki Nielsen from Denmark cross paths.

Lerena made easy work of Roberto Bolonti from Argentina, while Nielsen dismissed Johnny Muller to make the finals on Saturday evening.

Back after a lay-off of a couple of months, losing his world titles, will be Hekkie Budler, to take on Siyabonga Siyo for the WBA Pan African minimumweight belt. Both boxers have a score to settle and will battle it out over 12 rounds.

DeeJay Kriel will also be a drawcard when he steps into the ring to take on Nyelasani Thagambege in a catchweight bout over eight rounds.

In the junior-middleweight bout Nathan Hammand will show his skills. His opponent is still to be announced.
