Herbert Park celebrates 60 years of bowls

All are invited to Herbert Park Bowling Club's 60th birthday.

HERBERT Park Bowls Club is still going strong after 60 years of existence in the South.

Sixty years ago, in August 1956, the then Southern Transvaal Printers Bowling Club, at 71 Turf Club Street, in Turffontein, was renamed Herbert Park Bowling Club, when a Mr Herbert, who owned the property, gave it to the members of the club.

It was renamed in honour of his generosity and has been thriving ever since.

It has been the home of other organisations since then, such as the Moths, Onder Ons Holland Society, St Andrew’s Scottish Society and, recently, the Final Few motorcycle club, all of whom contributed to the clubs’ well being in every way they could.

The club decided that it would be great to have a 60th Birthday Bash at Herbert Park in honour of Mr Herbert.

It’s going to be a fun day of note on Saturday, August 27, from 09:00 till very late. Children are very welcome and will be well catered for.

You won’t find more friendly people with whom to spend a day than the members of Herbert Park.

There will be music all day, and bowls for whoever wants to play the game, with no stipulation as to when you can go onto the green and no time limit. Bowls will be available, but flat shoes or bare feet are essential.

The entrance fee of R40 per person includes a hamburger or boerewors roll. A cash bar will be available and there will be lots of prizes and raffles to be had throughout the day.

Join the club In the evening for a dance party with great music, and dance the night away.
