Boxing prospects to take centre stage

Prospects at the Palace will once again prove to be a humdinger.

According to the sayings in boxing, “rematches” are avenging the wrong decisions made within the four corners of the ring.

Whether this may have been that the boxer made the wrong assumption of the way he could take on his opponent inside the ring, or his corner, or whether the judges made a wrong call, this is what rematches are all about.

But this will all be overturned when the “Prospects at the Palace” boxing tournament goes live on Sunday, July 24, at Emperors Palace.

Once again, AfricanRing will be hosting the tournament, in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions.

Four fights on the bill will be four rematches.

On the main card, South African welterweight champion Shaun Ness, from the Southern Suburbs, will have a face-off with Ntuthuko Memela. The two boxers pulled off a draw in 2014 and their fans would like to see a result this time.

Popular DeeJay Kriel, from Colin Nathan’s Box Office, will take to the ring against Ayanda Dulani, in the flyweight division, which ended in a controversial split decision draw last time. They will have to battle it out in an eight-rounder. Kriel already has two rematches to his credit and his fans would like him to record a win.

Lucky Mongebane will come up against Xolani Ngidi in the lightweight division. Mongebane recorded his first loss against Ngidi and would like to overturn this during the afternoon’s proceedings.

Light-heavyweight prospects Chaz Wasserman, from Alberton, and Fiston Kabamba will meet again in an undercard four-rounder, after they received a split two months ago.

Junior-featherweight Joshua Studdard has set his sights on the bantamweight division and will be in action in his new weight.

Also to be featured are Stirling Shaw and Thulani Mbenge, two charismatic prospects seeking to make their mark.

As at the last “Prospects” show, there will be a jumping castle and other attractions for children, while Golden Ringside seats, including a sumptuous buffet lunch, will ensure a great outing for the whole family.
