TURFFONTEIN saw silks of a different kind on Sunday, June 19 when the annual Grooms Soccer Tournament was fought out on the infield pitch.
The Equimotion team emerged victorious, beating Randjesfontein 2-1 in a nail-biting final.
A tremendous amount of passion was displayed throughout the day and the winning team walked away with R7 000 in prize money.
The runners-up received R3 000 and all four of the other teams participating in the tournament received R2 000 each.
The tournament is sponsored by Phumelela and the Racing Association.
The teams consist of grooms from various horse training centres.
Phumelela and the Racing Association have provided the grooms with recreational facilities, including football fields, at these training centres and also provide kit and equipment.
The annual tournament has grown from strength to strength and has become a much-looked-forward-to event.
The Equimotion team clearly put in a lot of practice, as the competition becomes more and more intense with each passing year.
