CGA develop their athletes.

WHEN it comes to development of athletes, Central Gauteng Athletics are the front runners.

The province has produced some of South Africa’s top athletes over the years through its development programmes in the different disciplines found under the CGA umbrella.

Having hosted CGA’s fourth cross-country league on Saturday June 11 at Sinaba Stadium, Daveyton. CGA has observed great talent from young men and women who have great passion for running and aspire to be SA’s top athletes in the future.

Commemorating Youth Month, they share the same sentiments. Casey Bosman (15), Yandiswa Shange (16) and Robyn Kalten Bunn (18) said that it is important to keep your body busy by doing sport. It gives them focus and forms aspirations for them to excel in what they do. They look forward to going to SA championships in September and proclaimed their passion for running.

Casey Bosman of Benoni High School finished first in a 4km event for girls u.14 and u.15, clocking 14:47. She loves cross-country and has done 15 leagues. She is proud of her progress to date and her goal is to finish in the top three at the South African championship.

Yandiswa Shange, who runs for KPMG and finished first in the girls u.16 and u.17 4km (15:00) said that she wishes to inspire her peers to join athletics. “Running is so much fun,” she said. Yandiswa starting running for CGA at a very young age and has no plans to stop.

Robyn Kalten Bunn, also running for KPMG, finished first in a 6km event for girls u.19 (23:38). Her goal for 2016 is to be a junior provincial champion in cross-country. Robyn thinks running gives one an opportunity to get out there, encourages and motivates you to become a better person and meet a lot of inspirational people. “It is a good way to stay fit and keeps the mind fresh,” she said.

The next cross-country meeting will be at Delta Park, Randburg this Saturday, June 18 from 11:20.
