Youth empowerment via football

Thuso Phala handed over medals and trophies on behalf of the Foundation.

THE Supersport United and Bafana Bafana winger Thuso Phala is using Youth Month to kick off his foundation’s double-goal programme with a focus on football and education.

Born in Orlando Soweto, Phala has a clear understanding of what the youth of 1976 and their brave June 16 radical stance was about.

The Thuso Phala Foundation has embraced education through sport and football in particular as a strategic objective to develop and empower the youth.

The Thuso Phala Foundation will in due course announce partnerships with skills and development agencies as part of celebrating and commemorating the events on June 16, 1976.

On the football field as per tradition, the foundation has successfully administered a youth tournament on June 16 at the Nike Centre in Soweto. The eight-team tournament was a culmination of the elimination round played under the auspices of the Soweto Local Football Association.

Via Orlando Football Club and Chiawelo Trendsetters FC were the finalists, with Via Orlando emerging victorious with a 2-1 win.
