President impresses against Goudrif

Pressies players maintained their grip on the game and never let it slip

HOËRSKOOL President High School had an excellent ending to the NWU Super Series when they beat Goudrif on April 23 at Dr Malan in Meyerton.

In doing so they finished in a credible third and the coaches can be justifiably proud of the way they finished the competition.

Pressies started well, retaining the ball through multiple phases when going forward, although the last pass seemed to be going astray. One aspect that was especially pleasing is their captain and fly-half, Donovan Hall’s ability to put the ball in the corners and play in the right half of the field.

It is from attacks in the opposition 22 that Pressies looked especially dangerous. They were eventually rewarded with a try by Raymond Jacobs and they seemed in control after that. Half-time score was 5-0.

After the break Pressies really picked up the pace and played some good rugby. They maintained their grip on the game and never let it slip. Eventually they ran in four tries and one was converted, but it was not only the result that was pleasing but how the team approached the game. With the final score 22-0 in Pressies’ favour, they are looking like contenders in the league and this game will surely give them a confidence boost going into the rest of the season.

Tries:

Dylon van Wyk, Mandla Shabalala and Raymond Jacobs (two).

Conversion:

Donavan Hall.
