Super Rugby: Lions ready to roar

Emirates Lions touring squad to play in Japan and New Zealand.

EMIRATES Lions will feature a strong 27-player squad when it commences with its 2016 Vodacom SuperRugby campaign.

Head coach Johan Ackermann announced the touring squad for the Super Rugby tour to Japan and New Zealand. The side will be captained by Warren Whiteley.

Emirates Lions kicked off its campaign in Tokyo on Saturday, 27 February against the Sun Wolves. This week they will play against the Chiefs in Hamilton on 5 March and then on March 12 will take on the Highlanders in Dunedin.

The Emirates Lions side played in their black away jersey in this historic Super Rugby game in Japan against the new acquisition side the Sun Wolves.

CEO of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, Rudolf Straeuli, said that no player who missed the cut for Super Rugby will be released to another union as they will fall in with the Currie Cup side with immediate effect. “No contracted player will be released to other unions at this stage,” Straeuli confirmed.
