Top awards for Johnson and Mbesuma

Platinum Stars enjoyed a great start to the season, which has seen them go unbeaten in eight matches.

CAVIN Johnson, coach of Platinum Stars and Collins Mbesuma, the Mpumalanga Black Aces striker, scooped the Player and Coach of the Month awards respectively for September and October 2015.

Platinum Stars enjoyed a great start to the season, which has seen them go unbeaten in eight matches. Dikwena currently leads the 2015/16 Absa Premiership log standings with 18 points after eight matches, having scored 15 goals in the process – the most by any club at this stage of the campaign.

Johnson’s return to his old club has coincided with Stars putting together a string of impressive displays since the start of the league campaign in August. The judges praised Johnson for his tactical acumen, putting together a formidable outfit and grinding out the results even when the odds are stacked against Dikwena.

The rise to form by the Mpumalanga Black Aces this season has been largely led by Mbesuma, who has rattled the net five times in nine matches games, to jointly top the goal scorers’ chart.

The judges deliberated on a number of other candidates in this category. However, they felt the Zambian striker deserved the award.
