Orlando Pirates off to Egypt for CAF fixture

Orlando Pirates face Zamalek in Egypt.

ORLANDO Pirates will battle Egyptian giants, Zamalek SC, for the top spot in Group B in the final group round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The two sides, having already qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup semi-finals, will lock horns on Sunday, September 13.

After five games Zamalek occupy the first place by virtue of a better head-to-head points difference over the Buccaneers who are in second place.

Head coach Eric Tinkler comes into this match confident that his charges have learnt from their previous mistakes. Orlando Pirates lost 2-1 to Zamalek in their home match as the Buccaneers dominated but failed to convert the several goal scoring opportunities they created.

“Facing Zamalek is always going to be a difficult challenge but this is who we are, we thrive under difficult conditions. We have corrected our mistakes from when we played them in the first leg, it was a difficult but necessary lesson from which we have since learnt the importance of playing for the result”, said Tinkler.

“It is vitally important that we get a win against Zamalek and finish top of the group because we want to secure a home semi-final. It is a tough ask but it’s definitely doable, we have gone to Egypt in the past and collected a positive result.”

The fixture takes place at Petro Sport Stadium and kick-off is at 20:30.
