A walk in the park. That’s what they assured me at the older person’s group. So we blithely set out. The weather was lovely, sunny, with a slight cool breeze. But somewhere along the way we were ‘hijacked’ by a manic mountaineer.

As the ‘path’ got steeper and steeper, a few members of the group made a break for it and took an easier way back while the rest of us bravely battled on.

It got steeper and colder and windier and the ‘path’ was now only familiar to mountain goats. Yet on we went. By now I was near to tears and ready to throw myself into the next ravine. However, the group, being the resilient and wonderfully friendly lot who they are, gave me the encouragement that I required to go on, with lines such as “Get up off your lazy b-m” and “If you don’t keep quiet we’ll throw you in to the next ravine” (only joking Harry).

This gentle stroll that my spouse told me would be a good way of meeting others and keeping fit was the same as explaining the Comrades as a fun run.

Seriously though folks, this really is a wonderful bunch and if you feel like walking miles through semi-jungle and falling over huge boulders, this is also for you (only joking Harry).
