Banyana Banyana have resumed preparations for the second leg of their 2016 Olympic qualifier against Gabon.
The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana returned from Libreville on Sunday morning, May 24, with a 3 -2 win over the female Panthers of Gabon in the first leg.
Jermaine Seoposenwe scored two goals with another one coming from Sanah Mollo to give the South Africans an advantage going into the return leg.
Vera Pauw’s side held their first training session at the Bedfordview Country Club grounds on Tuesday morning, May 26, to start preparing for the clash scheduled for Sunday, May 31, at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto with kick-off at 15:00.
Captain Janine Van Wyk is pleased that Banyana Banyana returned home with a positive result from the first leg. “I’m happy that we came back with a good win from Gabon. Playing in Africa is not easy, so coming back home with a win was a relief to us and it will boost the whole team going into the second leg on Sunday,” said Van Wyk.
Fellow defender Noko Matlou believes that playing at home will give them a boost and shares Van Wyk’s sentiments on working on correcting errors they committed in the first match. “We know the match on Sunday is not going to be easy. They gave us a hard time when we played them in their own backyard, but this time round we are playing in front of our home crowd and we will push hard to get a comfortable win,” said Matlou.
