Kaizer Chiefs has been leading the ABSA Premier Soccer 2014/2015 season from start to finish.

They face Polokwane City this evening in a match that could see the club clinch the title with three games to spare. The Amakhosi lead their nearest challengers Mamelodi Sundowns by 13 points, and victory for the home side would put Stuart Baxter’s men in an unassailable position.

“We are aware of the position, but all we can do is concentrate on our own mission,” said coach Baxter, who will be back on the bench after missing the last two league matches. “If we continue to win our games, the title will sooner or later be ours.”

Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung notes that excitement is building up to the match as Chiefs supporters all want to be there when their beloved team crosses the line.

“There is a strong possibility of witnessing history on Wednesday night,” Motaung stresses.“We would love to share that experience with a stadium filled with loyal followers who have inspired us to greatness throughout the season.”

The match kicks off at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday April, 22 at 19:30. Tickets can be purchased at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets, costing R40 for adults and R10 for children under the age of 12.

The PSL together with league sponsors, ABSA have announced logistics around the ABSA Premiership Trophy handover.

PSL CEO Brand de Villiers confirmed that the ABSA Premiership Trophy will be handed to the champions on the last weekend of the 2014/15 ABSA Premiership season, Saturday afternoon May 9.

The League also confirmed that the last two block fixtures of the ABSA Premiership on Wednesday May 6 and Saturday May 9 will be played simultaneously. The kick-off for Wednesday night fixtures will be 19:30, while Saturday’s fixtures will kick off at 15:00.

De Villiers commented: “The PSL, in consultation with our sponsors ABSA, have decided to hand over the trophy at the last fixture of the club that will emerge as champions of the ABSA Premiership on May 9. This means that even if a club has mathematically won the ABSA Premiership before Saturday May 9, they will not be handed the trophy until their last match.”

The PSL has prepared for all scenarios for the last weekend of the 2014/15 ABSA Premiership should the championship race go to the last fixture of the ABSA Premiership.
