L’Ormarins proves a success once again

Futura and jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe had spectators on their feet as they sped over the finish line to take the winner’s title

The 154th running of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate’s on January 10 proved once again why the event is hailed as one of the Cape’s foremost equestrian, fashion and social calendar events.

With an excess of 4 000 people in attendance, including both local and international celebrities and personalities, guests were treated to a show both on and off the track as the day’s festivities unfolded.

Anticipation for which horse would be first past the post at L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2015 was higher than ever as the favorite Legislate, geared up to defend his reputation on the track, only to be defeated by four-year-old colt Futura.

The Dynasty-bred colt Futura and rider Bernard Fayd’Herbe had spectators on their feet as they sped over the finish line to take the winner’s title ahead of Summer Cup winner Louis the King in second and 33/1 outsider Gold Onyx in third place.

After the excitement of the horse racing, guests – including prominent international actor Hakeem Kae Kazim, Formula 1 legend Eddie Jordan, Mike Rutherford from Mike and the Mechanics, Bonang Matheba, Cindy Nel, and Ryk Neethling – danced the night away to the music of British dance-floor sensation DJ Lora.

First on stage and making her LQP debut, was Italian royal Princess Scilla DJ, who has become a celebrated DJ and has also graced the pages of Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire.

The 154th running of the Queen’s Plate solidified its position as one of The Telegraph’s top five race days worldwide. With many surprises on the track, and stylish famous faces on the trackside, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate showed why it is dependably spectacular, never predictable and always unforgettable.
