Budler defends double title

Hekkie Budler will be defending his titles in the new year.

Hekkie Budler will be defending his titles in the new year when he takes on Mexican Jesus Silvestre in the first big tournament of 2015.

Golden Gloves promotions will stage the “Thunderbolt” tournament at Monte Carlo on Saturday February 21.

South Africa’s Hekkie Budler has gained so much popularity in Monte Carlo that he will be on the undercard for this tournament. He will place his WBA and IBO world minimumweight titles on the table against Silvestre.

“I am quite confident that I will successfully be defending my title, but one has to know that Mexicans are very difficult opponents, said Budler. “We will be training throughout the holdidays to make sure that I am fight fit.”

On the same bill the vacant European bantamweight title fight between Lee Haskins and Frenchman Omar Lamiri will take place where Budler will fight.

Another top fight has been confirmed for the undercard of Golden Gloves’ “Thunderbolt” tournament. Hughie Lewis Fury will take a major step up in class when he battles Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko over ten rounds.

The show is headlined by the WBA Super world middleweight title fight between champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and British challenger Martin Murray from Golden Gloves.
