Lions secure home play-off

Lions secured a home semi-final match at Wanderers.

The RAM SLAM T20 semi-final between the bizhub Highveld Lions and the Chevrolet Knights will take place at Bidvest Wanderers on Sunday December 7, after the two sides saw their final league encounter lost to the weather just as it looked to be intriguingly poised.

The Knights had needed to win Wednesday’s game against the Lions at the Diamond Oval with a bonus point to leapfrog their opponents and secure a home semi-final, and gave themselves an opportunity to do so by posting 186/7 in their 20 overs.

However, the game had already been disrupted once during the Knights innings, and when lightning flashed around the grounds with the Lions on 22 without loss from 2.2 overs in reply, another delay was necessary.

The rain subsequently arrived and no further play was possible, meaning the two teams shared the points. That left the Knights third in the final standings, four points adrift of the Lions.

Rilee Rossouw’s 64 from just 34 balls had been the highlight of the Knights innings, while Kagiso Rabada showed pace and poise in taking 2/21 in three overs.

Eddie Leie also used his variations to good effect in taking 1/21 in four overs, which left him level with Cobras spinner George Linde at the top of the tournament’s wicket-taking charts, with 14 apiece.
