Lerena and Muller take aim

Tommy Oosthuizen will be back in the ring to fight for the WBC International light-heavyweight title against Denis Grachev from Russia.

Both Kevin Lerena and Johnny Muller is adamant that they will be victorious in Saturday’s “Top Guns” boxing tournament.

The tournament will take place at Emperors Palace and is presented by Golden Gloves Promotions. The event will start at 19:00.

Lerena and Muller will have their real face down on Saturday evening in a Cruiserweight contest scheduled for ten rounds. Lerena has a clean sheet on his 11-0, 7KO’s while Muller, the more experienced in the ring, boasts 16-4-2, 12 KO’s. A lot has been said about the punching power that Lerena takes in the ring, however what eludes him is the experience, and up until now it has never really been tested. According to his trainer, Peter Smith, his boxer has what’s needed for the clash on the evening. “We have trained hard and Kevin has the ability to KO Muller,” said Smith at the official Press Conference on Tuesday November 11.

“We have trained well and have been looking at all aspects of the fight, and will be ready for anyone from the Smith-camp,” said well known trainer Harold Vobrecht on Mullers chances. “We have planned the fight well and will be on alert.”

The main bout will see Tommy Oosthuizen makes his comeback to the ring. He has last been in the ring just over a year ago, and will be fighting Russia’s Denis Grachev. The two will meet to determine the title holder of the WBC International light-heavyweight. The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds.

The unbeaten former IBO super-middleweight champion makes his light-heavyweight debut against Grachev, who gave Ryno Liebenberg a run for his money.

Oosthuizen (22-0-2, 13 KOs) is SA’s most naturally talented fighter, a slick two-handed defensive master with ruthless instincts. He is also potentially the most exciting local fighter out there.

“I don’t believe in rustiness and it’s not an excuse I’ll be using. I will be sharp and strong, whatever is required to get the job done,” said Oosthuizen.

A gritty, come-forward boxer, Grachev, who is not backing down, will be out there to take the title back home. He never gives up and is a strong boxer whose record reads: won 13 (KO 8) + lost 4 (KO 1) + drawn 1 = 18 rounds boxed 102 KO% 44.44

In the other main bout of the evening another title fight will be on the cards. Ali Funeke and Roman Belaev from Russia will face each other in the IBO welterweight world title fight.

To open up the evening’s proceedings will be Mbulelo Nxazonke and Thabang Ramagole in the junior-flyweight bout over eight rounds.
