Top-liners on boxing bill

A full bill of five bouts has been on the cards, featuring a top boxer from Colin Nathan’s Hotbox gymnasium.

THERE will be no love lost between top South African boxer, Ryno Liebenberg, and his Russia counterpart, Denis Grachev, when they step into the ring on Saturday evening, Augst 2.

The boxing fraternity will for the first time ever experience the wrath of a Russia boxer, when Grachev meet Liebenberg. They always bring a kind of hype with them into the ring, and the appearance of Grachev will not be different when he descends into the ring.

“I don’t care if he comes from Russia, it will be no different for me. I don’t know if he wants to knock me out of winning my title, but quite frankly I don’t care,” said WBC Silver light-heavyweight title holder, Liebenberg, “He is in South Africa to fight me and he is the one who wants my title. I am fully prepare for his onslaught, but I am ready to ‘roll on’.”

Silver Salvo boxing tournament will take place on Saturday, August 9 at Emperors Palace. The tournament will be staged once again by Golden Gloves Promotions in conjunction with Emperors Palace.

A full bill of five bouts has been on the cards, featuring the top boxer from Colin Nathan’s Hotbox gymnasium, Ryno Liebenberg. He will defend his WBC Silver light-heavyweight title against his challenger, Grachev, a former IKF Muay Thai world light-cruiserweight champion, who has promised to put an end to the unbeaten boxer’s run.

Will this be “From Russia with love” or will Liebenberg still “Roll along” and keep his unbeaten streak intact?

The other top-liner is Thabo Sonijica, who defends his IBO super-bantamweight title against Roli Gasca of the Philippines. In addition to these top-liners, back in the ring at Emperors is Kevin Lerena from the South, in an international cruiserweight fight against Marcos Antonio Ahumada (14-2).

The evergreen Ashley Dlamini (14-2-2) will take on Thanduxolo Gatyeni at junior-lightweight over six rounds, and the exciting junior-flyweight Thabang Ramagole (6-2-1) against Olwethu Ngamlana (5-1), over six.

“We’ve tried very carefully to match fighters who will produce good action,” said promoter Rodney Berman. “The main fight – Silver Salvo – doesn’t need any selling: Ryno and Grachev are two guys who will slug it out from beginning till end. And we know what sort of power and excitement Kevin Lerena brings to the ring. Ahumada can punch too, so it could be very entertaining. Gauteng fans will also be treated to a very special talent in Thabo Sonjica. Experience has taught me that fighters from the Mzi Mnguni stable are always a class above.”

Tickets start from R150 per person and can be booked through the Emperors Palace Box Office on 011 928 1297/1213 or on www.emperorspalace.com or www.computicket.com
