Pulling punches at Thunderstruck

Box 'n Dine action with altogether seven bouts on the cards.

THE boxing fraternity can look forward to a seven-bout boxing tournament at the end of March, featuring some of the best local talent in the South.

“Thunderstruck” will take place on Tuesday March 25 at Emperors Palace and will take the form of a Box ‘n Dine. Boxing starts at 19:00.

The main clash of the evening will be between the South’s Alfonso Tissen and Dowayne Combrink from Alberton. They will face each other in a middleweight show-stopper over six rounds. No punches will be pulled in this grudge match between the two local boxers.

Tissen trains under the watchful eyes of Gert Strydom, while Combrink is now under new management at the Harold Volbrecht gym and managed by Brian Mitchell. This was a fight in the making and African Ring promoter, Jeff Ellis, and matchmaker Ruben Rasodi had no trouble with them signing for it.

Undercard of the evening is the debutants in the heavyweight Martin Makabu, brother of the cruiserweight, junior, who will fight Cecil Smith in his debut fight.

Fighting for the second time in March will be the exciting featherweight, Ricardo Hiraman, who has recorded three wins by virtue of knockouts.

Other fights are Ronald Malindi, trained by Bernie Pailman, Wynand Mulder in his first pro fight under the guidance of Alan Toweel. Marlon Verster from the Hot Box gym trained by Colin Nathan, and finally Zane Mundell, who returns to the ring.
