Joburg Open Round two under way

Round two of Joburg Open under way.

Round two is well under way at the Joburg Open with duo from Scotland leading the field.

Craig Lee and Alastair Forsyth have claimed their number one spot at the start of the eighth edition of the Joburg Open which is held at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington course. The Joburg Open first round was held on Thursday February 6 and it ends on Sunday February 9.

The players will change courses today; those who tee off on the West course yesterday will face the more difficult and longer course, the East course. Some 210 players are participating in this year’s Joburg open.

This is also the first year that the Joburg Open forms part of the prestigious Open Qualifying Series, with the top three finishers within the top 10 and ties not already exempt gaining entry into the world’s oldest Major later this year.

Lee played on the East course and made 65 on the par-72, which was a little more significant than Forsyth’s 64 on the par-71 West course, which is the notably easier side.

The Scots shared the first round lead with South African Justin Walters and Italy’s Edoardo Molinari, with eight players crammed on six-under-par. Defending champion Richard Sterne carded a five-under-par 67 on the East Course.

Amongst the players on six-under were 2011 South African Open champion Hennie Otto, George Coetzee and Graham van der Merwe playing on his home course.

The field plays a round on each of the East and West courses before the cut off to the top 65 players and ties, after which the remainder of the 72-hole event is played over the East Course.
