Joburg Open preview

Golfers are all set for another Joburg Open tournament starting in Johannesburg on Thursday morning February 6.

KENSINGTON – Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Clr Mpho Parks Tau, hit the ceremonial tee shot to mark the official start of the 2014 Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club on Thursday February 6.

The tournament, co-sanctioned by the European Tour and Sunshine Tour, will be played over both the East and West courses. This is also the first year that the Joburg Open forms part of the prestigious Open Qualifying Series, with the top three finishers within the top ten and ties not already exempt, gaining entry into the world’s oldest Major later this year.

Some of the pro-am golfers together with participants in this year’s Joburg Open tested the course on Tuesday February 4. The 26-year old Spaniard, Alvaro Quiros, was one of the professional golfer who was out on the course with some of the amateur golfers. He will be in full flight in the start of the Joburg Open which commenced at 11:00 today.
