Turffontein gearing up for Charity Mile

What does the South African Police’s Mounted Unit, a couple of South Africa’s most beautiful and well known faces as well as the Jongifundo Primary Aftercare Centre have in common with the sport of Kings?

TURFFONTEIN – The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile is just around the corner and sees the gathering of 16 thoroughbred racehorses who are each paired with a celebrity ambassador and a nominated charity in the spirit of giving and most importantly in order to stake their claim of R550 000.

Turffontein Racecourse’s parade ring played host to 30 children from the Peermont Children’s Trust’s Jongifundo Primary Aftercare Centre who were given a demonstration by the SAPS’s Mounted Police Unit which included caring for a horse as well as an understanding of the important role that the mounted unit plays in keeping the local community safe.

Phumelela’s National Marketing Manager, Michael Varney said, ”Emperors Palace’s sponsorship of the Charity Mile has always gone deeper than the race day itself and through our partnership it is imperative that our legacy projects benefit from more than just the cash contributions but in other ways such as extracurricular activities such as these, most of the kid’s here have never been this close to a horse before today and have loved the experience.”

Saturday November 2 Turffontein Racecourse will again welcome an array of well-known faces including those of model Kerry McGregor, singer Amore Vittone, former Miss South Africa and businesswomen Joan Madibeng, radio jock Alex Cage and rugby great James Dalton to mention just a few.

There is no gate fee and the day itself offers something for the whole family including a kid’s carnival celebrity autograph signing, beer garden and of course top class South African horse racing!
