Race for Victory

Race for Victory will start at Rand Water premises

RAND Water Race for Victory has a new and exciting route and race format.

This, in addition to it been recognised as one of the longest standing National Classic races on the South African calendar for the 17th year with past illustrious winners including Alan van Heerden, Nic White, Reinardt Jansen van Rensburg, Arran Brown and Daryl Impey.

The annual event will take place on Sunday September 15, three weeks earlier than before. The cyclists can now use this event to kick-off their new season.

The route will be a real challenging 150 km route (Tour De France style) which has been introduced for the local Pro and Elite riders. The race over 50 km of this route will take place inside the scenic, tough and challenging Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. A real tough and “proper” King of the Mountain primes is sure to split the field into pieces. However, once out of the Reserve, at the 93 km mark, the route then joins onto the main 110 km race route and with 57 km of terrain, which is predominantly flattish, the non-climbers will then have a chance to regroup. Not forgetting the renowned 900 m sand section with just 4 km remaining. This Elite event can now arguably be termed as the toughest one day National Classic in the country and a deserving winner will emerge. Over R27 000 of prizes will be awarded to this race. The King of the Mountain prize is sponsored by Land Rover Constantia Kloof.

A new 110 km route, which will not go through the Suikerbosrand, with just 590m of total ascent, has been introduced for all the other “less fit”categories , racing veterans, racing elite ladies and veterans, juniors and of course all the seeded groups so as to ensure and give everybody a fair chance to excel and produce fast times. This main event most importantly, carries with it the opportunity to better ones seeding for the 2014 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour as well as for the 2013 Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge.

Part of the 110 km route takes place in the scenic area near Henley on Klip. A rewarding R35 000 is up for grabs in this race.

The shorter 54 km distance on offer allows the less fit to enjoy a cycling day out in the South. Licensed racing schoolboys/girls however will have an opportunity to show off their potential. As usual a category for the disabled riders is also catered for.

Come and enjoy the day with us and celebrate with this event, the 110th birthday celebrations of Rand Water, our main sponsor.
