EMPD still nowhere to be seen

Is it so difficult for EMPD to understand that the violations actually take place on Swartkoppies Road?

I have been following the story, and also the questions posed to the EMPD in the Alberton Record about the chaos at the R59 onramp and Swartkoppies Road intersection with much interest.

And let me tell you, I have no words to describe the utter ignorance of EMPD concerning ongoing traffic violations.

I travel on Swartkoppies Road from the Brackenhurst area towards the CBD daily and every morning I am waiting for a serious accident to happen. The drivers entering Swartkoppies from the offramp, using the left lane to illegally turn right onto Swartkoppies, are putting so many lives in danger.

And not only that but they cause traffic delays at the intersection and also, believe me, are responsible for the blood pressure of law-abiding drivers shooting through the roof.

And what does EMPD do? Absolutely nothing. I quote the EMPD’s comment from the Alberton Record of February 6 on page 2: “Officers are deployed and patrol daily on Swartkkoppies Road. Swartkoppies Road is one of our main and strategic routes in Alberton. Fines are issued almost daily at the intersections into Swartkoppies Road. The R59 freeway is monitored and patrolled by our Freeway Unit.”

What a laugh. If that was indeed the case, then why have I, and I am sure many other road users on this road will agree (if not all), that I have not seen a traffic officer at the intersection of the R59 onramp (from Vereeniging’s side) into Swartkoppies in a very, very long time.

Is it so difficult for EMPD to understand that the violations actually take place on Swartkoppies Road? And they (EMPD) want to tell us they patrol Swartkoppies on a daily basis? It is laughable. It is disappointing.
Please EMPD, wake up and take some action.

Disgusted driver

• With the same answer given to the Alberton Record regarding this issue on more than one occasion, the Alberton Record did not approach EMPD for comment again.

We stand by previous answers (as stated in the letter above) from EMPD.
