Do not dump!

A notice by ward 56 councilor

I have noticed that recently there’s been an increase in the amount of refuse that we see being left on pavements and in our parks. As soon as we clear it, more gets dumped there within a short space of time. This is problematic, as it’s illegal to dump refuse on a pavement or in a park. If residents need to urgently dispose of their refuse, they can dump it at the garden site in East Road, Linmeyer or at the Robinson landfill site in Turffontein road. Pikitup collects refuse from households once a week.

The problem with dumping refuse illegally, is that not only is it an eyesore but it also attracts rodents and helps to spread diseases. It also causes people to walk in the road, because there’s less space on the pavements and it prevents the parks from being used for the recreational purposes they’re intended for. If you get caught dumping illegally, you will be fined!

I urge all residents to stop dumping illegally with immediate effect and request that people take pictures when they see this happen, so that we can catch the perpetrators!
