Department statement on school poisonings

We again caution the parents to monitor their children at all times to avoid similar unfortunate incidents.

The Gauteng Department of Education can confirm that there was a case of suspected food poisoning at Laërskool Suidheuwels on November 9, after a man was allegedly seen distributing sweets laced with poison.

Affected learners were admitted at the hospital and are now discharged after getting treatment. Highveld primary was not affected at all. The department is urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of that person, to report the matter to the nearest police station.

We again caution parents to monitor their children at all times, to avoid similar unfortunate incidents.
