Thank you Councillor Paul Smit!

Building a home presents many challenges and a project that is certainly not for the faint-hearted. It requires endurance, patience and wisdom.

As we were nearing the end, we were ready for inspection of our electrical compliance by City Power. What a shock to be told that our application for a prepaid meter that was done in October 2014 and paid for in March 2015 was not lodged onto their system! The application had somehow got lost! We were told to reapply.

This was unfair as we were being prejudiced for a mistake on the side of City Power. We had to move into our new home and the new application could take months to process.

We embarked on an intense struggle, communicating with City Power on a daily basis, just to be told that there was a shortage of prepaid meters and that we were placed on a ‘waiting list’. No time frame was given.

A friend of ours gave us the contact details of our DA Ward 23 Councillor, Paul Smit, who immediately started communicating with every relevant person in order to assist us. He pursued the matter relentlessly, compassionate about our circumstances and the urgency with which we needed a prepaid meter. He gave us feedback daily, giving us hope as few people today operate with integrity in any matter. Paul Smit went as far as requesting the Mayor of Gauteng to intervene. We finally received our prepaid meter and would like to thank him for his integrity, compassion and perseverance in our struggle. You are true to your word and our city needs more councillors like you!
