Be on your guard in Alberton City

Saturday, May 30, Shirley Brummer was distracted by an Indian lady in Pep stores while the girl with her stole Shirley's ID book and R500 from her bag. This is not the first time this lady has done this and Shirley warns Alberton city patrons to be alert while shopping.

ALBERTON- On Saturday, May 30, I went to Alberton City, and while shopping in in one of the stores, an Indian lady in her mid 30s approached me and started questioning me about the scatter cushions. With her was a girl between 10 and 12 years of age. The lady distracted me and only afterwards did I realise that the girl had taken my ID book with R500 from my bag.

I was very distraught as this has never happened to me and, as a pensioner, it is a lot of money. I rushed to Absa bank to stop my card and also spoke to the specific store’s manager. Unfortunately I was told that they don’t have cameras in the back of the store. A lady from another store told me she has seen this woman before. Customer Care contacted Ruben from Stallion Security and he assured me he would keep a look out for the woman in the future.

I walked to Alberton SAPS where captain Mathou helped me to complete the forms. Thereafter, Gustav and Leonard took me to the bank and then home.

Be on the look out as this is not the first time this woman has targeted people in Alberton City.

I would like to thank Gillian who works at the front desk at Absa, the manager, Debbie Capell, Thoko and Megan. Thank you also to Stallion Security, Ruben and Mo who assisted me. Thanks to Captain Mathou and Leonard, Gustav, Wilma and Richard who encouraged me. And a big thanks to God for helping me through this ordeal.

*Alberton City management said that they sent a letter to the tenants requesting them to be vigilant and they are working with Stallion Security to investigate the matter.
