Defeating a cellphone thief

A letter to the Editor.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – On Wednesday morning February 4 my daughter was traveling along Booysens Road to link up with the M1 North.

At a robot a young man opened the passenger door, got into the car and started shouting at her saying, “Give me your cellphone or I will shoot you.” This lasted about a minute.

She immediately switched the car off, because she had to reach over to the back seat to get her bag. When she took the cellphone out he continued shouting, telling her that he wants her bag. Suddenly she felt as though she was covered by a warm blanket.

She declared: “In the name of Jesus I tell you I am protected by the blood of Jesus. You will not take my bag.”

By this time she was shouting louder than he was, and all the while she stared him in the eye. He was defeated, got out of the car and told her to calm down, leaving the bag and the cellphone.

He was well dressed, well spoken and about 26 years old; and wearing a green shirt.
