Bowling…old men’s marbles? Wrong!

Oh, I know you have driven past bowling greens all over the country during your busy working day and smiled at all the 'oldies' on the greens. Well, yes, who else has the time to play this enjoyable sport in the morning.

SOUTH JOHANNESBURG – Nevertheless this leaves afternoon and evenings, some Sundays and public holidays where there are always greens open somewhere. This is not an expensive sport. Green fees are cheap and there are usually bowls to borrow or purchase second hand until you make up your mind that this is for you. Then you can join a club in your area and be a full-time member. What other sport can you play from very young to very old, men and women?

There is an 11-year-old in England picked to play for the under 21 district squad; and my club has an 84-year-old who still plays every week, and exceptionally well! Bowls is an exciting and highly skilled sport that is sports best kept secret.

The SA Masters Champion, who is the best of the best, is a grand ‘old’ 25-year-old. That’s right, twenty-five; a very young girl! She is also a double gold medal winner from the Commonwealth Games. This makes her one of the best top class bowlers in the world!

So get down to your local club and enjoy a game with a great social atmosphere and a lifetime guarantee of fun and excitement. Good Bowling!
