Disappointed with article
I am disappointed, which is an understatement, regarding the article (Comaro CHRONICLE May 28, page 3, Mourners litter streets in Winchester Hills) of residents who have the nerve to complain about the litter dumped during the funeral of my brother on May 17, and making such an exaggeration as if they were left lying there waiting for the municipality to clean on Monday.
Who still write such in this era? Clearly you stuck in the apartheid era despite 20 years into democracy you saw it fit to identify the race of mourners who attended the funeral. Did you get into the bus and confirm that it was blacks only or you saw the sign? Or it is your belief that buses are meant for blacks? This was pathetic reporting.
It has to be noted, we the family, ensured that the place and neighbouring streets were left clean with all the polystyrenes picked up and put in refuse bags on Saturday afternoon. Therefore, you chose to take the picture whilst people were there or immediately when the buses left. How dare you…….. sitting and watching how these bunch of Africans will behave so that you can run to the press and moan. I found your article and comments disgusting.
We as the family, we would like to put on record that we view the reporting that has malicious and racial intentions to discredit the family (who are proudly Africans/blacks), any blacks residing in the
South or the whole of South Africa. Racism is an insidious cultural disease. It is insidious that it doesn’t care if you like blacks. So writer remain there alone and do not drag us along with your infected mind.
One resident on the article talks about taking the country forward, with these kind of despicable and distasteful, racial writing about how you perceive other races is the one that is taking the country
backwards where we come from (Apartheid era), where the believe was that Africans are dirty, filthy and litter everywhere therefore do not deserve to be in the suburbs.
To the writer note “I am an African” and I will not take your comments lying down and yes, you will see mourners in buses and in huge numbers at any of our funerals, traditional functions, parties and
wedding. We will continue practicing our culture and slaughter if required to do (by laws will be observed but will not deny us our rights to Africanism) therefore embrace yourself to see more, as
dignified and responsible Africans we will clean after our mess.
You chose to forget that the helper in your house is African, gardener is also African and refusal removals is done by Africans employed by the municipality, shame I am intrigued to know if you wondered how much of dirt do they pick after you.
Please, we are in mourning it is just two weeks after our loss for two goodness sake, how sad that we as the family have to respond, as the reporter and editor lacked foresight to verify the facts with family or edit the article; perhaps the Reporter and Editor felt we have better things to worry about, or it was not of importance to give the family an opportunity to respond so that both sides are reported. Oh, not critical because they are ‘Africans” hence there were buses full
of Africans and they litter anyway.
Anyway I hope you cleaned the whole street for us and we thank you for being neighbourly! Le ka moso! Do assist with the cleaning for others as well.

In reference to the above comment on the article of May 28.
It is not often that I am drawn in to comment on irrelevant and nonsensical articles and comments, however the responses that the original article brought about is nothing short of eye opening.
It is bad enough that we live in an era of a apathy, a total disregard for our environment and community. We all preach Ubuntu and values, but in reality we are all hypocrites hiding behind history.
I share the readers concern about the disregard for ones neighbors and equally found the litter left behind after the funeral in Winchester hills. Although the family has my deepest condolences regarding their loss, the litter left behind has got nothing to do with the event but more by the disrespect that the guests of this family has on the neighbors and surrounding community. There should be no litter in the first place and if one has respect for ones environment and community this should never happen.
This issue transcends race, culture or history. The same fundamentalbvalues should apply whether you are black, white, indian or a talking purple elephant. It is only people of weak character (or are exceptionally lazy) who hide behind history and pull the ‘race card’ whenever some dares to make a comment that they do not agree with.
It is bad enough that our once beautiful suburbs are being degraded by people not respecting where they are ( have you walked through the nature reserve lately? It is shocking how much litter is strewn about.)
If one is incapable of respecting the society, community and environment at large, then there is no room for you in a civilized society. ( before this gets twisted into a racist remark) this is applicable to all races, colors and creeds ( even the aforementioned talking purple elephant)
