Ashamed to be South African

After reading the letters regarding the funeral litter, I am ashamed to be a South African.

I too am a resident of the suburb and saw the mourners and the double decker busses. The mess they left was appalling to say the least. The next day I saw the resident clearing the refuse, did I stop to help? No, I just drove by pretending not to notice what my brothers and sisters had left behind.

The tone of the letters is upsetting. One would think that after 20 years of freedom we would stop using the black/white excuse for unacceptable behavior. Why do we only practice Ubuntu only when it suits us? Where was the Ubuntu of the bus passengers? We must stop hiding behind these facades and face reality that we are all in this together.

Ashamed
